Meet Our Teachers and Helpers

Our teachers are:
Karen is a professional ESL teacher. Karen has taught ESL to adults in various settings: college, university, businesses, factories, adult education programs and church programs for over 20 years. She says, “As a teacher, I always learn so much from my international students. They make me feel like I am traveling all around the world without leaving home.” Her goal is to make learning English as fun and painless as possible. She has worked in our program for seven years.

Lori has a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in music. She has taught first through third grade, with an emphasis on phonics and reading instruction. She is now a home educator (12 years). During this time, she has explored different instructional techniques in phonics, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and creative writing. She enjoys learning about other cultures and during her college years, has traveled to several foreign countries including Israel, Greece, Scandinavia and Russia.

Jan coordinates the childcare, ensuring a friendly and safe place for you to leave your children, if you have the need to bring them along on ESL class night. She has had numerous years providing childcare, beginning years ago with my own three children, who are now adults. She also works for Greene County Child Services. providing help to families with special need children.

Harleen has recently retired from teaching. She taught a variety of different grades, from 5th grade through 12 grade. She was the English teacher at Xenia Christian school for many years. This is Harleen first year in our program, but has taught ESL in Boston for several years before moving back to the Dayton area.

Kristy -
Kristy has a degree in English and loves history. She learned German in a "German as a second language" environment and taught ESL classes in China. She has worked in our program for 5 years.

Our support staff includes:
Barby - supports the director and loves to talk with students.

Jan - coordinates and helps with the child care on Thursday evenings. Works for the Greene County Child Services, helping children with special needs. She has supported us for 3 years.

Mark - son of Lori helps with the child care on Thursday evenings.

Daniel - son of Lori helps with the child care on Thursday evenings.
