“ … by which [God] has granted to us his precious and very great promises …” (2 Peter 1:4).
The God of the Bible – the one, true, and living God – is the God of the covenant. That is, he is the promise making and promise keeping God. He promised and has given his people life – true and everlasting life in Jesus Christ. Jesus himself is the resurrection and the life. Jesus tells us that he came that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). And brothers and sisters, there is nothing greater or more precious than the life we have in Jesus! Peter refers to the promises of God as great and precious because Jesus is great and precious! Today, may we rest by faith in the great and precious promises of God. May we rest by faith in our merciful Savior, the Lord Jesus, in whom all God’s promises are yes and amen!
